Shopko Hometown Signing Project | Internship 2013
Shopko is a large retail store that started in Green Bay, Wisconsin. With over 330 stores Shopko is mainly
located within the Midwest but stretches to other states across the country as well. During my internship
with them, I had the privilege to work on a larger signing project for the Shopko Hometown Stores.
This was an extensive project that I began working on my first week at Shopko and was finalized and sent
to the printer, four months later during my last week. The concept behind this signing project was to test
an interior signing display that would represent a “hometown” feel within the Seymour, Wisconsin
Hometown store. My mentor and I were given specific color direction, and the freedom to work with
various sizes within the constraints of the wall’s height and width. I was involved in selecting and
preparing the images used, as well as determining sizing and sequencing used in the concept proposal.
Once the images were approved and the final editing was completed in the photo studio, I helped prepare the
files for printing.
The goal was to create an enjoyable environment for the customer while incorporating a few images in the
signs from the local community. These specific signs are located in the Seymour, Wisconsin Shopko
Hometown Store. Three of the photos in the above images are actual local shots from the Seymour
community.
